The daggert (in memory of Ovartaci) by Thomas Kadziola on Uddenskulptur 2024 2025
The Dagger (in memory of Ovartaci) is a powerful work — a large slab of grey granite standing upright in a metal structure.
The stone resembles a dagger, both in name and in form. Its top is carved into a head with a raw, almost brutal expression: the mouth slightly open in a grimace that speaks of pain, anger, or defiance.
The sculpture evokes a sense of inner struggle and intensity, perhaps a tribute to the complex life and art of Ovartaci — an artist and patient at a psychiatric hospital in Denmark for most of their life, whose imaginative and deeply personal work continues to resonate.
