Uddenskulptur 2026 – 16 Years of Sculpture by the Sea
Opening saturday 30-th of Maj.
Welcome to the 16th edition of Uddenskulptur – an anniversary celebration set in the historic quarry by the Northern Quay in Hunnebostrand.
Since 2011, this remarkable site – once a centre of the Swedish stone industry – has been transformed each summer into a unique arena for contemporary sculpture. Over the years, Uddenskulptur has gained both national and international recognition for its striking dialogue between monumental artworks and the dramatic coastal landscape.
The 2026 exhibition continues a long-term vision, supported by the Municipality of Sotenäs: to develop Udden into a cultural landmark. By engaging with the site’s physical, historical and symbolic layers, the exhibition invites reflection on essential questions:
What does it mean to call a place “cultural”?
How can a place be used – and by whom?
Uddenskulptur 2026 is both a celebration and a platform for reflection.
Over the past sixteen years, with the support of Sotenäs Municipality and numerous collaborators, the exhibition has presented a wide range of sculptural practices by artists from around the world. The beach and surrounding rock formations have become integral parts of the exhibition, yet the potential of the old quarry remains far from exhausted.
This year marks an important new development. For the first time, invited artists have been given the opportunity to work on site, in a well-equipped workspace, creating new pieces specifically for Uddenskulptur. This approach opens up a deeper engagement with the location, allowing artists to respond directly to its materials, history and atmosphere.
For visitors, this creates the possibility of encountering a familiar place anew – to see it through the eyes of the artists, and to experience how art can reshape our perception of landscape.
We are proud to present newly created works by Roland Höft (DE) and Erica van Seeters (NL), alongside selected works by Ulf Johnsson (SE), thoughtfully chosen for this unique setting.
The participating artists have been selected by an independent international curatorial group.
Organisation by Stonezone Ideell Förening.
