A piece of granite, a piece of the universe, the shell of the earth, with an imposing backdrop of the remains of eroded rock.
To contemplate a historic place filled with the hard work, pride and knowledge of a stonemasonry culture feels optimal. On Gotland, you rest in a slightly younger perspective Here, ice ages meet fossilised animals and plants for only about 400 million years.
The limestone can be soft and fragile. Granite can be hard and heavy. But both can be hot and cold and be their opposites.
They can tell stories and capture our feelings and experiences. I like these possibilities….
