Resting on a square pedestal is a rounded convex form in swedish diabas, polished to a mirror-like surface. A large circular opening at its centre gives the sculpture both balance and direction, evoking associations with a gaze outward — an utblick.
The form is simple and elemental, at once familiar and abstract. Enlarged to a monumental scale, it invites contemplation of both material and meaning.
The stone has been broken and carefully repaired using polished copper inlays. The restoration follows traditional stonemasonry methods, where damage is not concealed but instead becomes part of the object’s visible history. The repair itself becomes an essential element of the sculpture.
This approach creates an association with the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, in which cracks and fractures are emphasised rather than hidden. Here, Eastern and Western traditions meet: Nordic stone craftsmanship combines with an aesthetic that recognises beauty in imperfection, repair, and endurance.
