Isabella Martin är bildkonstnär vars verk utforskar människors plats i världen, hur vi formar och formas av vår omgivning. Hennes forskningsdrivna praktik är tvärvetenskaplig och kontext-specifik utifrån experimentell lek och vetenskaplig. Hon arbetar på olika medier, inklusive skulptur, teckning, ljud och film. Hennes nuvarande arbete fokuserar på idéer om mätning, navigering och tid i förhållande till plats och kropp, genom arbete med en växande grupp medarbetare som geologer, fysiker, biologer, sjömän och skolbarn.
Isabella Martin bor och arbetar i Köpenhamn, har en BA (hons) i konstskulptur från Brighton University och en MFA från The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Isabella har utställt och deltagit i bostäder och offentliga uppdrag internationellt. Nya verk inkluderar WAVE MACHINES, utställda på Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Köpenhamn, The Old Recent på RYMD Gallery, Reykjavík och The Burning som visas på Crosscuts Film Festival, Stockholm. Hon är för närvarande en artist-in-residence i In-Situ, Storbritannien, och arbetar också med Z-Time, ett projekt vid Medical Museion, DK, som utforskar dygnsrytmer med kronobiologer vid Köpenhamns universitet.
Air pockets on Uddenskulptur 2020
An invisible motion of air, we experience wind indirectly; we see what it moves but never the wind itself. The wind stirs things around us to reveal distant atmospheric conditions, connecting the movement of weather systems over the North Sea to the feeling of the breeze on your face.
Air Pockets are a set of wind vanes weighted to show both where the wind is coming from and where it’s going to. Pointing hands as arrows try to show what can’t be seen, telling us what to look at and where to look. The work points into and with the wind, shifting constantly in response to the surroundings, attempting to reveal something just out of sight.
Air Pockets is part of WAVE MACHINES, a collaboration with researchers at the Technical University of Denmark. The project explores the ways we map, visualise and experience the ephemeral and tangible movements of our surroundings.
