Erik Funck is interested in language and identity and how their readability is challenged by contemporaries. He is inspired by sociology, ideas about how the present is characterized by rapid change and how it affects the view of history and concepts of meaning. Erik Funck examines and shapes these questions by combining different materials and techniques such as sculpture, installation, painting, graphics and video. The combination, he says, provides an opportunity to say something about things that are on the border of what can be captured in words. It also opens up for a kind of renegotiation of what the materials stand for, for us as humans, but also in relation to each other.
Erik has a bachelor’s degree from Valand Academy in free art and has also studied art at the Folk High School in Angered and at the Gothenburg Art School. Erik operates based on the studio collective Kedjan in Gothenburg.
